Mini sessions are pitched as quick and easy portrait sessions, shorter in length and at a fixed location and time for minimal effort/ decisions/ logistics/ potential child fussing. I know it’s still a LOT of work as a parent to get everyone out the door and arrive on time (if you’re late, too bad! Next! Ack!), not to mention the lingering worry wondering if the kids will be happy/ have fun/ look fun/ not fall on the rocks or choke down fistfuls of sand/ show your family connection and the expressions and authentic smiles you are privy to all the time. Could I possibly see what you see every day in just 20 minutes together??
It certainly isn’t less work on my end just because the sessions are short and the number of images promised that I’ll deliver is far fewer (just 10!). If anything, the pressure I put on myself to produce is so much more intense. I took as many photos in two hours of mini sessions that I do at an 8 hour wedding day. Woah! It was a LOT to wade through, and I happily just delivered galleries of 120-160 images each (!) to 7 incredible families who met me at the beach and brought their A+ love game in front of my lens.
Some are new friends, others I have been photographing for years. We went with the flow (er, the tide), followed some adorably kind and curious children, held hands, snuggled up, played silly games, and wore our hearts for all to see as the light tiptoed across the sky differently from family to family as October afternoons often quickly do. It was exhilarating, emotional, exhausting and totally worthwhile. Thank you ALL for being there.
Here’s a sampling. Enjoy!
